Installing Tabs3 Palm on Palm Desktop 6.2

Note: Version 15 of the Tabs3 Palm App is compatible with Palm Desktop 6.2, and can be installed normally. The Workstation Setup performs all necessary functions for installing Tabs3 Palm App Version 15; therefore, the installation work-around provided in this article is no longer necessary for Version 15.

Summary

Currently, the Tabs3 Palm App software is designed to work with Palm Desktop Version 4x. If you are using a newer Palm OS based handheld that utilizes Palm Desktop Version 6.2, the following work-around is provided that allows you to successfully use Tabs3 Palm App software with your Palm OS based handheld.

Tabs3 Palm App Installation Instructions for Palm Desktop Version 6.2

Once the Palm Desktop has been installed, this work-around consists of modifying a shortcut, installing the Tabs3 Palm Application, and then using the Palm Install Tool to add new files.

To use Tabs3 Palm Application with Palm Desktop Version 6.2

  1. If not yet installed, install the Palm Desktop v6.2.
  2. Modify the Install Tabs3 Palm App Shortcut using the following steps:
    1. From the Start button, select All Programs.
    2. Point to Software Technology | Palm Software.
    3. Right-click Install Tabs3 Palm App and select Properties.
    4. Click the Shortcut tab.
    5. Modify the Target field contents from:
      (*Path)\SATFORMS\RdkInst.exe instt3.ini -condpath  SFrmCn40.dll -crtreg STIB -restarths -instprc

               to:

      (*Path)\SATFORMS\RdkInst.exe -condpath SFrmCn40.dll -crtreg STIB -restarths

      Note: The label (*Path) shown above is a variable that represents the location of your installation (STI Program Directory). Do not modify this value.

      Note: Modifying the field is easily accomplished by deleting the instt3.ini and -instprc commands from the existing field (these entries are shown above in bold for easier identification).
       

    6. Click OK to save the changes.
  3. Run the modified Install Tabs3 Palm App shortcut using the following steps:
    1. From the Start button, select All Programs.
    2. Point to Software Technology | Palm Software.
    3. Select Install Tabs3 Palm App.
  4. Use the Palm Install Tool to add files using the following steps:
    1. From the Start button, select All Programs.
    2. Point to Palm and select Install Tool.
    3. Click Add.
    4. Browse to the STI Program Directory (as indicated by the "Path" variable in step 2e), and then open the SATFORMS directory.
    5. Add every .PRC and .PDB file that is found in the SATFORMS directory, as shown in the following list.
      Tip: You can easily select all files by clicking on the first file name, then press and hold the Shift key and select the file at the bottom of the list.

      • ESTIB1001_T3TCODE.PDB
      • ESTIB1001_T3TRANS.PDB
      • SF52RDK.PRC
      • SFE_LSListBox.prc
      • Tabs3.PRC
    6. Click Done, and then click OK.
  5. Initiate a HotSync.

The Tabs3 Palm Application is now installed on the handheld and ready for integration with Tabs3.
