Summary

When running a Data File Integrity Check, or when receiving a Fatal Error, it is possible that the file reported is the PracticeMaster Cross Reference file (CMXREF) or E-mail Cross Reference file (STEMXREF).

A Cross Reference file is a system file that, while it contains links between Related Parties and other records, contains no additional data. Therefore, this file is not listed separately in the Data File Integrity Check or Rebuild Data Files program. When it becomes necessary to rebuild a Cross Reference file, the Related Party file (CMRELATE) must be rebuilt, and in order to correct the links in the Cross Reference file, the Compact Selected Files option must be selected.

More Information

In order to rebuild the PracticeMaster Cross Reference File (CMXREF) or E-mail Cross Reference file (STEMXREF), perform the following steps:

  1. From the Utilities menu, select Reindex Files.
  2. Select the option to Reindex Specific Files and click the Select Files button.
  3. In the Select Files window, choose the Related Party (CMRELATE) file listed under Lookup Files. Click OK.
  4. Select the check box to Compact Selected Files, and click OK.

If used in order to correct a fatal error, and this process does not resolve the error, refer to the KB Article for the specific Fatal Error for additional steps.
