Summary

This message will be displayed if a user attempts to open an Exclusive function while other tasks are currently open or in use, or attempts to open a task while an Exclusive function is currently open or in use.

More Information

An Exclusive function requires exclusive control of the specific system's data files. Only one user will be allowed to access the program if such a function is invoked. When starting the program while an Exclusive task is in use, a message is displayed, allowing you to wait at the Conflicting Activities window or exit the program.

These are examples of the login message and the Conflicting Activities windows:

Resolution

Once the task(s) that are causing the Conflicting Activities window to be displayed are complete, the message will automatically be cleared and you will be allowed to continue with the task you initiated. Closing the Conflicting Activities window will cancel your task.

Resetting the user who is performing the conflicting task is NOT recommended. The only time users should be reset in the software is if the software is improperly closed, such as when their computer loses connection to the network or loses power. For information about resetting users, including the risks associated with resetting active users, see KB Article R10789, "Resetting Users."

Older Versions

In Version 14.1 and prior, different messages are displayed. KB Article R10071, "This Task Cannot Be Started While Other Tasks are Active," shows the message that is displayed if a user attempts to open an Exclusive function while other tasks are currently open or in use. KB Article R10072, "This Task Cannot Be Started Because An Exclusive Task is Active," shows the message that will be displayed if a user attempts to open a task while an Exclusive task function is currently open or in use.
