With the release of version 10.5 and later of System Configuration, users now have the ability to rebuild System Configuration's index files by using the Reindex Files program found under the Utilities menu option (Utilities | Reindex Files).
The index files are used by System Configuration to locate the position of specific records within a data file. The Reindex Files program deletes and rebuilds index files for selected files. This program is typically used only when problems occur.
If the System Configuration program detects a problem with one of its data files, a message will be displayed instructing you to run the Reindex Files program. The ability to recreate index files gives you the capability of salvaging data if the index data files (i.e., *.IDX) are missing or become corrupted due to hardware failure.
CAUTION: Make a backup before running this program. If this program is interrupted for any reason, it may be necessary to restore your data files and rerun this program.
The Reindex Files program includes the following options:

The OK button can be used to begin the Reindex Files process. Progress meters are displayed showing the status of the reindex process.
The Cancel button can be used to close the Reindex Files window. If you click the Cancel button while the Reindex Files program is running, the program will complete the file it is reindexing and then safely abort the process.
Note: If data files have been corrupted prior to running the Reindex Files program, a message may be displayed upon completion of the process indicating that errors have been found. If errors were found, the Print dialog box will be displayed allowing you to print an Error Report. This report will contain information about the errors that may be useful to the Tabs3 Technical Support Department. The Error Report is also saved to a disk file named SCREORG.LOG. This file can be opened with a text editor if necessary. This file is deleted and recreated the next time the System Configuration Reindex Files program is selected.
If you are unable to log on to System Configuration because of a problem with the User file, use the command line /REINDEX_USER startup option. Use the following procedure to do this:
Note: The STUSER.IDX file cannot be present in the program directory in order for the command line reindex to work. Rename the STUSER.IDX file before using the following procedure.
S:\STI\STICONFG.EXE /REINDEX_USER
This will reindex the User file, which may clear up the file corruption.
If reindexing the User file does not resolve the problem, you must restore ST*.DAT and ST*.IDX from a backup made prior to the files becoming corrupt. Any additions or changes made to users, access profiles or firm information since the backup was made will be lost.
If the version of System Configuration is prior to 10.5, you have two options available.
