How to Reinstall Version 11 Tabs3 and PracticeMaster Software

Note:  For instructions on reinstalling Version 15 Tabs3 and PracticeMaster programs, please see KB Article R11257, "How to Reinstall Tabs3 and PracticeMaster Version 15 Software".

SUMMARY

Occasionally it may be necessary to reinstall the Tabs3 and/or PracticeMaster software programs. Typically, reinstallation is required in the event of hardware problems. This article lists the files that will be affected and includes the procedures for reinstalling Version 11 software over an existing Version 11 installation. If you are using Version 10 or earlier, please call our Technical Support Department for conversion instructions.

FILES AFFECTED DURING REINSTALLATION

The following files are affected during reinstallation of the software:

Reinstalling the software will not affect your data files, the STI.INI file, dictionary files, report definitions or Report Writer definitions. We recommend reinstalling all Version 11 programs that your firm has installed.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Before Installing

Tabs3 Remote, Cost Recovery Interface & DTE InHand Handheld Integration Note:  If you are reinstalling Tabs3 due to an upgrade, software license transfer, firm name change, etc. (i.e., you have a new Tabs3 serial number), make sure you merge any remote data files, cost recovery system data files, and handheld integration files before reinstalling Tabs3. Otherwise, the previously entered information cannot be imported.

PracticeMaster Briefcase Note:  If you are reinstalling PracticeMaster, make sure you check in any PracticeMaster Briefcase data before installing PracticeMaster. The installation program will not permit installation of program files unless all Briefcase data is checked in.

Tabs3 Palm Software Note:  If you use the Tabs3 Palm Software programs, refer to the Tabs3 Palm Software section in this article before proceeding.

Note:  When installing from a Windows 2000/XP/NT4 workstation, you must have Administrator privileges.

Reinstalling the Software

To install the software on your hard disk:

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. A CD Browser program will automatically start. (Note: If the Windows CD-ROM Autorun feature is disabled, click the Start button, and then click Run... Click the Browse button and navigate to the CD-ROM drive. Double-click the LAUNCH.EXE file. Click OK).

  3. Select the appropriate menu option depending on whether you are installing full working versions or trial versions.

  4. Note: We recommend reinstalling all of the Version 11 programs that your firm currently has installed.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the selected software.

  6. Consider reinstalling the Documentation to make sure you have the most current files.

Tabs3 Palm Software

Note:  If you are reinstalling because you have received an updated installation CD-ROM, your Tabs3 Palm Software will need to be updated only if the Release Date is before 12/11/2003. If you are reinstalling due to missing or corrupt program files, or for any other reason, skip the rest of this note and proceed with the instructions below.

Right-clicking the Tabs3 Palm icon in the system tray of the Windows Task Bar and selecting the About option will display the Release Date of the currently installed Palm Software. If the Palm Software has a Release Date of 12/11/2003 or later, you have the current version of the Palm Software and it is not necessary to update the program files; therefore, you can skip this section. If the Palm Software has a Release Date prior to 12/11/2003, follow the instructions below to reinstall the Palm Software.

The TABS III Palm software name was changed after the initial release of Version 11 to Tabs3 Palm Software. As a result, if you are reinstalling Tabs3 Palm Software from an earlier version, you must uninstall the TABS III Palm software before you reinstall the Version 11 software. Earlier versions of the software use an ST icon on the handheld, whereas the new Tabs3 Palm Software uses a new star logo with "Tabs3" text on the handheld.

Use the following procedures to reinstall your Tabs3 Palm Software:

  1. Make sure you HotSync data from all handheld devices before installing the Tabs3 Palm Software on the handheld.


  2. Uninstall the Tabs3 Palm Software from all handhelds before reinstalling. Detailed procedures to uninstall the Palm software can be found in your Tabs3 Palm Software manual.


  3. Reinstall the software onto the hard drive as directed in the Reinstalling the Software section of this article.


  4. After you have installed the Version 11 software onto the hard drive, you can update the Tabs3 Palm Software onto each handheld. To update the Tabs3 Palm Software, from the Start button, select Programs | Software Technology | Palm Software | Install Tabs3 Palm App.


  5. Once the files have been installed on each handheld, you will also need to create new Palm Software Data Files and HotSync them to the handheld. Your Palm Software manual contains complete details regarding these procedures.
