The information in this article applies to:
When first started, Version 10 or later Tabs3 and PracticeMaster programs perform a check to ensure that the computer is not using an outdated version of the network redirector software. If a Tabs3 and PracticeMaster program determines that the redirector software on the computer needs to be updated, a message will alert you and tell you how to get more information about redirectors.
The text of the redirector message is as follows:
The computer you are using has outdated redirector software installed on it. It is STRONGLY recommended that you install updated redirector software as soon as possible. Old redirector software can adversely affect network performance. It can corrupt data and cause unnecessary loss of time, money, and resources. Complete details can be found in our Knowledge Base on the Internet at www.support.Tabs3.com. Look up the keyword "redirector" in the Index. This message will be displayed every time the software is started until the redirector software on this computer is updated.
Often, this message is encountered for the first time after updating Tabs3 and PracticeMaster software products to Version 10 or later. Prior to Version 10, Tabs3 and PracticeMaster software did not automatically test the network redirector software on the workstation running the application(s). Since the introduction of Version 9 software, however, users have been able to test their redirector software using our REDRTEST.EXE utility, which is available for free and can be downloaded from our Web site at http://www.Tabs3.com/support/utilities.html. The REDRTEST.EXE utility is also included on all Tabs3 and PracticeMaster installation CD-ROMs, and is automatically installed along with the System Configuration program. For more information about the REDRTEST.EXE utility, see KB Article R10104, "REDRTEST.EXE Utility Program."
Redirector software is the software that allows workstations or "clients" to "talk to" a server via a network. Redirector software for networks is provided primarily by Microsoft and Novell. This software is an extremely critical component of any network. Each workstation on a network has its own redirector software. KB Article R10200, Redirector Problems and Other Network Problems, has extensive, detailed information about redirector software and settings.
If this message is encountered, contact your network administrator and request assistance in updating the redirector software on any workstation that receives the message. After the redirector software has been updated, the Tabs3 and PracticeMaster software will no longer display the warning message when started.
